SWAT employs a wide variety of enemies to provide an ever-changing experience. Players gain experience for any enemy unit dying anywhere on the map for any reason, regardless of proximity. The entire team levels up at the same rate with a few exceptions. Players do not not gain experience while in a "safe" room - a room that enemies are not allowed to spawn from. The Lab, Bunkers, ABMs, and Power Plant rooms fall under this category. (This feature is to negate their usefulness as a camp spot.) Other factors that affect experience gain include the Psychologist's rank bonus, his Mental Clarity skill, the Swift Learner Trait, Concussion injuries, Flower Child trait players using Mentats, Drug Overdoses, Resurrection sickness, and Death.

Zombies, Grotesques, and Beasts will regenerate and use mana depending on Radiation level.
